“Art-ture” Studio (pronounced archer’) is wearable art composed by Arden Bardol.

Art-ture is the blending of art and architecture. Arden received her professional training in architecture where, form follows function. In her wearable art, a passion in her life, form comes from bringing structure, color and texture together in a composition that is both functional and pleasing.

Arden, with no nickname except “A” chose the name Art-ture to describe what she does because it combines the art of her pieces with the basic principle of her architecture. Each series within the collection is unique and one of a kind.

Arden’s artistic journey began at a very young age working on small projects with her father. The projects always included wood, string, glass and stones. Throughout her years of elementary school and high school, she always had an art project underway, usually outside of any required class curriculum. College brought an intense study of the built environment but most importantly, her education at Carnegie- Mellon taught her how to transform her ideas into a built form.

Upon graduating, she entered into the profession of architecture and interior design, always keeping other design projects underway. Arden studied “hand built” pottery for several years at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts where she ”pushed the limits” of the clay, and learned new firing and glazing techniques. During her many years of traveling in the mid-nineties, visiting such places as the Far East (Japan, Korea, China, Philippines), Europe (Spain, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland and Italy) and the Midwest regions of the United States (Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado) she was exposed to the vast cultural influences of each place which she now uses as inspiration in her wearable art.

Arden works with polymer clay which is blended with a variety of other materials in a process which she continually refines. Each of her beads is hand made and one of a kind. The hand made beads are mixed with, semi-precious gems, found objects and metal beads. “My work tends toward the classic and the geometric, but has a bit of whimsy. I enjoy the mental energy spent designing my beads in my sketchbook and the creative energy spent actually constructing each bead and then combining them into a wearable work of art.”

The basis of each piece comes from bringing color, form and texture together. Each piece attempts to achieve harmony and balance mixing unlikely material and gems. All the polymer is custom mixed for each series and color way. Most of my pieces include several of the following stones or gems: Tahitian Pearls, Smoky Quartz, Turquoise, Coral, Amethyst, Agate, Jasper, Peridot, Citrine, Tiger Eye or Amber.
